12th August 2020 | NHS in Somerset licenses customised Mum & Baby app

Somerset NHS’s Local Maternity System (LMS) is the most recent to sign up for a customised version of the award-winning Mum & Baby app, provided by Imagineear Health, a new Division of Imagineear Ltd dedicated to apps and digital services for the healthcare sector.  Mum & Baby gives women and their families NHS-curated and clinically-evidenced guidance and information on pregnancy, birth and beyond and is personalised to include their due date, appointments and personal care plans.

When an NHS LMS adopts the Mum & Baby app, new mums in their area also have access to profiles of all maternity units in their area including how far away they are and relevant transport and logistical information.  The app provides self-referral links, essential contacts and other local information such as birth registration, Children’s Centres, volunteering, local research projects and – if they wish to do so – how to donate to the charities of their local NHS hospital trust.

Mum & Baby’s considerable content data set has been recently reviewed, updated and expanded by the dedicated clinical panel at NHS North West London LMS who are the clinical and governance partner behind the app.  This ongoing task keeps Mum & Baby relevant, up-to-date, and able to support new mums with the changing best advice that keeps her and her baby safe and healthy, even during a pandemic.

The extensive new programme of content that Mum & Baby’s users will benefit from in Somerset covers topics including:  listeriosis, heart health in pregnancy, SCAD during and after pregnancy, the antenatal class videos, getting to know your baby, thinking about contraception, handling your newborn baby, keeping your baby warm, pressure sores, fatigue, carpal tunnel syndrome, commonly used medicines after birth, the transition to motherhood, baby’s oral health, baby slings and baby car seats and your baby’s development.

“I’m delighted to welcome NHS Somerset’s LMS to Mum & Baby.  The app is open to all NHS England LMSs to help provide choice around their service users’ maternity care in their area and to give local information and targeted contacts to provide an excellent user experience. Through a dedicated portal, LMSs can add and edit their app content on an on-going basis providing a flexible way of keeping local content up-to-date.”

Julia Laflin, Head of Imagineear's Healthcare Division

Mum & Baby, which is free to download for iOS and Android, offers reliable, NHS clinically-approved information for new mothers and their partners and received an ORCHA rating of 82%, making it one of its highest rated pregnancy apps in the UK.  It has been downloaded more than 50,000 times and has been shortlisted in the Digital Health category of the London Design Awards 2020.
