Supports patients' recovery with excellent clinical outcomes
The brief
Hand Therapy provides access to treatment information and exercises for people rehabilitating from hand, wrist, finger and thumb injuries. The app concept came from Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, which has one of the largest and most experienced hand therapy teams in the UK. Led by Occupational Therapist, Hayley Fay and co-funded by CW+, Chelsea and Westminster Hospital’s charity and its digital tech partner Imagineear.
The solution
Over 90 exercises, covering physiotherapy for the whole gambit of hand conditions, are shown by video or audio with additional notes and leaflets. The app is designed to be used in conjunction with treatment from a qualified therapist and to improve compliance and comprehension to aid progress. Users can group their prescribed exercises, set reminders and track their progress within the app.
The results
The Hand Therapy app is a positive example of how healthcare apps can support patients and facilitate excellent clinical outcomes.
"Hand Therapy is a positive example of how healthcare apps can support patients and facilitate excellent clinical outcomes. The exercises are proven to aid recovery if done as prescribed by a therapist so the app helps patients by offering a reminder of how and when to do them in a mobile format. This is our first app in the physiotherapy sector and we hope to repeat its success with other therapy purposes."
