The brief
Neonatal Palliative Care is an area of medicine where a clear set of principles can underpin the care that staff provide to babies with life-limiting conditions, and helps to equip them to support families through a very challenging time.
The solution
Developed in partnership with Chelsea and Westminster NHS Foundation Trust and its charity CW+, this guidance app provides neonatal staff with a clear set of principles and guidelines from the Royal College of Paediatrics and Lead Nurse for Palliative & Complex Care at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, Alex Mancini, who is also Pan London Lead Nurse for Neonatal Palliative Care.
The results
Put together in a rigourous stakeholder consultation by a multidisciplinary neonatal team, the app content covers practical aspects of infant care, including pain relief, comfort and dignity, as well as prognosis management and providing support to families during their baby’s illness and after death.
